I've wondered about bringing tripods to shows as well. Interesting to hear that it's not such a big deal after all. Maybe I will try that in the future. Thanks for posting such fantastic photos.

Thanks Ron. I've got as far as having the tripod in the car, but not had the nerve to actually take it in and start using it as I always feel self-concious that people will object. Might have to give it a try, I've seen others with them and yeah, I'm quite happy to work around those with them.

LOL, I think one problem is that people with tripods look like they know what they are doing photography wise... and I still don't feel like I do so would feel a bit of a fraud

Thanks, Rosie and Gloria. I sometimes get asked, Rosie, if I'm taking pictures professionally. I guess the tripod does leave that impression, though if they watched a while they would see otherwise.

Very nice photo Ron. At the shows I have been to tripods are not allowed during the general open times. People are allowed to wander around with tripods the morning before or evening before during set-up. I've seen a person get asked to take their tripod down. A mono pod is allowed tho.

When I first saw that name of the orchid, I thought it was referring to cultural conditions (i.e., low humidity). I have to agree with you the name seems odd for an orchid, but perhaps there's a story behind that name.

I've never seen that rule at any of the shows I've been to and have never been questioned about the use of a tripod, even at the AOS trustees meetings in November.

Part of the name, I think, come from the fact that the one parent is Paph. lowii, but as to the "hum" I'm clueless.
