Default Paph Winston Churchill 'Indomitable' FCC/AOS x gratrixianum

A recent acquisition that has now opened up for me. I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I LOVE complex crosses, but I only have 2 as they are hard to get around here!

That is one exceptional paph! Gorgeous in every way.

I am wondering. . .What substance is it that makes these flowers so shiny?

Does the shiny surface aid in pollination? I am thinking the insect might slip off and fall into the pouch, crawl up and pollinate on the way out?

Thanks so much to everyone for the comments!

Gmdiaz, I have no idea what the substance is that causes the waxy texture (but I am very curious now - does anyone else know?); however, the purpose is primarily to protect the flower from the elements, mainly extreme heat/sunlight. This is also the reason why so many orchids have a waxy texture to their leaves.
