Default Paph. Helenae

I have been looking for a Paph Helenae species and have had difficulty finding one.
(I't's named after my daughter)

Does anyone know where I could locate one??

I have seen hybrids with Helenae in them, but no species.

I saw one in Orchid Wiz that was awarded and grown by Cloud's Orchids in Canada, and sure enough they have them Paph Species and Hybrids(updated on March 1, 2009)

I've never ordered from them, but it would be a bit expensive to ship to the US since they seem to require a minimum order of $50 and $15 for a phytosanitary cert.

Thanks Megan.

I saw that site, but I was reading the U.S. orders wrong. I read the Hawaii listing where you had to order $500 minimum and figured it meant all of the U.S. Oooops.

I saw a seedling there for $40 (Can.) so I figure after paperwork, taxes, and shipping, that is going to be close to a $100 orchid.
I'll have to think about that.

No problem, a seedling is something though After digging around a bit on the web, it seems helenae is somewhat difficult to get a hold of.

It's strange because Paph helenae seems to be readily avaiable in Europe. I found at least 6 vendors that carry it here. Normally we are the ones that have trouble finding plants that are available to you guys across the pond!

I read a few German growers have it and have made hybrids with it, but as far as legally obtaining one in the US I'm not so sure about!

I, too, so so so! wish Paph. helenae were more readily available here in the US. It is the #1 Paph on my list! I wonder why it's so much less available here.

I think Roellke-Orchideenzucht from Germany does go to shows in the USA sometimes. He has young plants of the paph helenae. If you can figure out when and where he will be next time in the USA, it might be possible to get one from them. Just a thought.

I had one in the Lansing show, did you see it?

It wasn't legally imported for the longest time, so that is why we are behind here in the USA. AFAIK, there has been a legal importation. I think Antec Labs was selling them?

I don't remember where I got mine from. Probably a trade with another vendor.
