Default A general question for the Paph experts

What is the little "bud like" thing just below the ovary of most Paphs? Is this a possible second blossom?

Seems all the Paphs have this to some degree, but venustum album has a stronger nubbin. Can I possibly clip off the old blossom when it gets old (not to rush it, folks!) and get a new flower?

Bonjour Ross,

That's what it looks like to me too. You shouldn't have to cut off the first blossom for the second one or any others to succeed, just let it happen - works for me

I'm on my 5th bloom on a Paph. Pinocchio. The little nob is the next flower. I had 2 at once and on anothe occassion accidentally knocked off a flower. The bud took just as long as if I had waited.
This, for me, is going on 3 months of perpetual flowers and it was purchased already in bloom.
Would that the others were so spectacular.

That extra bit is actually another flower bud that may or may not develop further. In some seasons, the odd normally one flowered Paph will have this extra bud continue to maturity. It is something relating back to the origin of the species. If it doesn't develop to flowering at about the same time as the main bloom it never will regardless of what you do. If anything its a sign of the plant being very happy in its environment and culture.
