solid leaf vs mottled sunlight needs -OR- YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG, COCONUTS!!!!!!!!

i have my solid paphs in my bathroom behind a very opaque window and my mottled outside on my patio where they get some morning and early direct light (through a screen) and then bright shade.

I was speaking to a MUCH wiser grower and she said, "isn't that completely wrong?" to which i said, "i don't know, i thought it was this way but i am now unsure" and here we are....

so, what's right

Generally speaking, the mottled-leaved species are less demanding of light.

I have both, and phrags out on my deck, up against a north-facing wall. Bright, but no direct light ever.

so i do have it backwards...D'oh!

i have one half of a phrag in full sun...it seems happy, you think too bright?

Which mottled-leaf Paphs? The Maudiae type do like a bit less light than the solid green ones, and also like to stay warmer (but in south Florida that's not a problem) The solid-green multiflorals grow more like the Maudiae type. Then there's the mottled-leaf parvisepalums (like delenatii, micranthum, malipoense, armeniacum)... So being a nit-picker, leaf pattern as a shorthand grouping, is a bit untidty, IMHO...

confession i am a bit of a newb.

i befriended a major collector a few years back and she is always off loading extras and duplicates and plants she does not have time to water...…

i bought a collection of paph (12) for a pittance because she was letting them die behind her nicer ones LOL

i am learning...i'll get the solid leaves out of the WC and ill tell you the names of what ive got

A list of names would be great... then the advice can be "fine tuned" to the specifics for each plant.Orchids have so much variation, that general statements tend to be wrong for at least a few.

If it’s morning full sun for a brief time, it’s probably OK, but noon full sun is a no-no.

It get direct light until noon or one. Then only bright shade.
I’ve had her in the same spot for a few months but I would want to relocate before the summer if it will be too intense there. Thanks!
