phrag caudatum (a peruvian one) Male
Default phrag caudatum (a peruvian one)

this one came from my recent trip from Lima, the mother plant was already in bloom, i got a small division of this one, this is my third caudatum that i own, and odd enough the three clones are quite different from each other. why did i brought this plant back with me having 2 of them already? well this plant had petals of 1m 23 cm long, i have never seem anything this long for this species, the plant itself was MASSIVE, with a leaf span of at least 70-80 cm about 10 adult fans and about other 8 i could count that were growing up, it had broader than normal leaves, leaf was also very leathery and strong, almost hard to to bend without breaking , plant was about 65 cm tall. coloration was also different from the ones i have. so i bought it with the spike, just to make sure the plant was the same, (sometimes there are several clones growing in the same spot). and after the bloom opened , there is no doubt that this is indeed the same one with those huge petals. the flower itself was also far bigger than the others i had, i presume that happens because of the size of the mother plant.

this division i took was quite small, the main fan have a leaf span of 27 cm, and it is a single fan with a baby one starting to grow the attached pictures are of the plant that is here in my greenhouse, flowers were not as big as the ones i saw in the mother plant, but still bigger that the other caudatums i own. was impossible for me to bring a bigger division of this massive plant although it was offered to me.

i cut the flowers after the picture, so its energy is concentrated in growing a new root system. as it does have very few roots left after i trimmed the division off from the mother plant.

sadly my cell phone had no battery and i could not take picture of such massive specimen , sorry guys!

Antonio.

Very nice. Isn't this P. wallisii, though? The edge of the rip seems to have the ridge.

i dont think this is wallisii, specially after seem the really long petals on the specimen sized mum plant , but i am not an expert with phrags at all.

i did , send this to Mr manrique in peru, he replied back saying that there is a population of this plants (with really long petals) in oaxapampa ,peru. he also mentioned that the longest petals he has seem on one of his plants was 1.05mts long, not 1.20ish, that was seem in the massive plant described in the first thread.

i dont know what that is, other than what seems to be an species. love the color form, as it is different from the ones i got.

Oh, OK. This group is pretty confusing. The color is more of P. caudatum, but maybe the ridge of the lip is just the illusion from the photos. So you are probably right that it is P. caudatum. Here is some interesting article about this group:

Anyway, it looks like a nice plant!
