Phragmipedium besseae Male
Default Phragmipedium besseae

This is the Phragmipedium besseae I bought last weekend at the show. I'm an impulsive buyer. First I buy and then I try to learn what requirements it has, so any tips on its culture will be very much appreciated. I've read they need a lot of water, so people have them standing in an inch of water. Is that true?

Very nice! I love this species. And yes, they like to stand in water, though with mine I change it (the water) out pretty frequently.

I put the pot in a bowl with approx. one inch of distilled water. Should I do the same with the Phragmipedium caudatum I bought?

What a beauty! My phrags love semi hydro in lava rock. That way there is nothing to rot when it sits in water all the time.
