I am not sure if they are considered separate species or variety as some people just call them parviflorum or pubescens. So you can understand the confusion.

Beautiful group of photos of one of my favorite wild orchids.

Here in Michigan, the local cable company was kind enough to place a cable right through the heart of a group of Cypripedium calceolous var. parviflorum that I have been watching for the past 4-5 years. I'm anxiously awaiting next spring to see exactly what damage was done. It really ticks me off when a public entity can come in and destroy a group of protected plants like these through ignorance of what is growing there, but we are not allowed to touch them in an attempt to save them.
