This has been blooming for a couple of weeks. This is the second flower on this spike. I have bloomed it now 3 times. Bought it from Bloomfield Orchids about 5 years ago. Just a darling little thing.

Beautiful! I have one that is growing pretty nicely and is cranking out new growths like crazy, but I haven't bloomed it yet. Does your plant bloom in one specific season, or just whenever each new growth is finished?

You have a lovely flower.
Compared to the other pictures in the net; your flower is way much better looking in color and form.

Thank you for your comments. I grow it in a bonsai rectangle clay pot in a seedling bark mix. It seems to bloom when it feels like it. It was in bloom for our Spring show in March but had a brown spot so I didn't exhibit it. I bought it in bloom. It was in a regular pot and I moved it to the bonsai. I have it in front of a T5 light unit near the fan since I read it liked to be drier than some of my other orchids. I just read that it grows on limestone so I am debating about adding either lime or oyster shell as a top dressing. The growths are just now sending out more growths at the bases with 2 each. It grows by stolins (?Spelling?) that I try to convince to stay in that pot.

Be careful with letting it dry out too much (which seems to be a common ailment). While this plant grows in arid regions (hence the name xerophyticum), it grows on the side of limestone cliffs that are always moist because of seeps that constantly ooze water out all year round.

Thank you irusus79 for the advice. I mist every day so it really doesn't have a very dry time. What do you think about adding the lime or crushed oyster shell?
