Default Looking for Large(r) flowered Phrags. Can you help?

I have a number of Phrags and right now my Eric Young is in bloom, but I am really shocked at how small the flowers are ......I'm kinda bummed out over it actually, coz I thought they would be larger than what they are....
the plant is a really good sized plant.

Can anyone recommend some Phrags that have moderate to large Flowers ?

Most of the colorful Phrag hybrids do have rather small flowers - until recently - because schlimii and besseae are small flowered species. Look for any of the hybrids of Phrag kovachii. This is a relatively recently discovered species and the first hybrids were registered in 2007. The flowers of this broad-petaled velvety purple species are HUGE compared to most Phrags, and the hybrids are also notable for their size. They won't be cheap because its a new line of breeding, but they shouldn't be hard to find in the US if you check with growers that deal in Phrags. There are too many to list and more becoming available all the time, but look for kovachii and you'll find some for sure.

Those are great recommendations ....
(with the exception of the kovachi (sp) Phrags which I think are horribly ugly).....

But the others I don't find available for Sale anywhere .....so I'll keep looking.

Thanks.

Piping Rock has Bouley Bay and several other nice besseae hybrids. Phragmipediums - species and hybrids - both classic and new

Orchids and Orchid Supplies

Kovachii are big. I've seen them in person and they look pretty cool in person!

Phrag kovachii itself can be awkward in appearance, there hasn't been much time for breeding improved forms. However, the hybrids will cover almost the entire diversity of forms seen in Phrags and may have little resemblance to the species. If they are all horribly ugly you you must not like Phrags much...

I love Phrags! 95% of my collection is Phrags. I just don't happen to like the look of Phrag. kovachii.
