Same thing has happened to my dendrobium new shoot yesterday .I was thinking it may be a flower spike.
You know big ants coming and have a sniff during the nights.
May be an ant. You know flowers, there are honey in them like wise in tiny shoots. May be because of tender and delicate things.

Hey , Can you send a pic of your squirrels? You just hang a empty tin out side the window sill and tie a rope and shake it several times.

Squirrels get scared , run away and never come back. Or hang a bell ! The neighbors will have a nice laugh too!

You know my about my tins ! Even children smile at it.
Get some nice music too.

I have pics somewhere.... But i could not look out all the time and shake the bell... would those wind chimes work as well?

I may suppose you are growing trees around your home .Squirrels can get in easily. Here we have to keep dogs and cats to scared away snakes ,reptiles, mouse and even monkeys.
Even today a snake came near my well. A cat will help you!
How about a dog?

There are trees in the back yard next door. I keep stuff on my fire escape and squirrels walk on electricity and TV cables...

This is the remaining part of my new flower spike . Some one has chewed the crown of my spike.

Stef :- Here mice and mongoose climbed on telephone wires and do the damage .
We can't do anything bec its night . But during the day time there are many traps you can use for them.
Being a kid I use to trap birds . Fix a big cage to trap them.
Fixing a wired grill over the fire escape will help you . I can't stand these damages make by animals. We try to burn monkeys tails.
