Phrag. schroderae -- brown lesions on leaf
Default Phrag. schroderae -- brown lesions on leaf

Hi all,

I've been growing a Phrag. schroderae for about 14 months and generally things seem okay (no flowers yet). Despite searching the forums and online, I can't find anything specific to what I am seeing on my phrag -- brown lesions on the leaves. They are slightly depressed and limited in size, typically linear in appearance, parallel with the length of the leaf.

I don't believe this is sun damage as I have seen these lesions appear in new growths that have been kept in shade. For a while it was receiving tap water but for the past 6 months exclusively RO water, with fertilizer (MSU recipe at 1/4 strength once a month). I use s/h for this one and flush with RO water about every 3 days. The new growths that have appeared in this time also show the spots.

Given the plant has been actively growing and has maybe 3 new growths starting, I don't think it is in dire straits. That said, I'd like to understand if this is expected or normal, or something reflecting poor care or a contagion. Many thanks for your input:

Welcome!

I haven't seen this particular problem, but there are other members of the Board who likely will be able to jump in with useful information.

Hello, Happy Growing!

Curiously, the same thing happened to me, also on a Phrag Schoredae XD

Here I show some photos of some lesions on a Schoredae and a Longifolium, lately it has been raining a lot, and since I grow them outdoors perhaps the water has stagnated.

Some people recommend placing cinnamon in the crown of each phrag, to avoid rot, others pour hydrogen peroxide into the crowns, leave it for a few minutes and then remove it (depending on this to eliminate the pathogens that may live there). But I don't know those methods. , since it seems they have not been scientifically proven

Nice to know it's not just me. Since my first post the issue seems to have resolved and new leaves are free of blemishes. I'm not sure what did it -- I moved the plant back to a southern exposure with tinted windows and ceased fertilizing.
