Ansellia africana - II
I have two different plants, both purchased in auctions (NJOS & the northeast judging center fundraising auction).
The first plant was a small division in poor shape, so it took me a couple of years to get it back on track. It finally bloomed over the winter, with an average shape flower with very dark spots. This plant blooms on canes/pseudobulbs that are 8-10" tall.
The second plant was BS when I got it, but being a fresh division with few roots, it skipped blooming in 2016. It bloomed finally bloomed in May this year. The flowers have very good shape, but even more spotting than the other plant. This plant blooms on canes/pseudobulbs that are 16-20" tall.
We hang them in high light, and water twice weekly in summer, weekly in winter.
Considering the differences between these two plants, I can understand the debate over this species:
a. One species with a lot of variety.
B. Many very similar species.
