I think this is the last orchid are running out of room. so from reading they like outdoors so then will take care of it inside she will. I see when to bring it in but when to put it out? here in portland oregon the weather can be crazy sunny one detrain and cold the next.
I would buy one from trader joes but I would really like a fragrant one. she cans colors but perfume is very nice for her. smalls would be better too.
do I have a combo of planting media? most o our orchids are mounted it makes it easier for her to take care of. Have med to corse mix of coconut course pearlite and charcoal. a bag of medium to fine bark dust and peat moss and coconut fiber. I already spent too much on her three orchids and some more plant lights.

If you're willing to wait you can go to Trader Joes every now and then, and sniff. They have fragrant ones from time to time. A week ago one near me had some fragrant Oncidiums, something like Sharry Baby.

Yeah, probably the best you can do if you're limiting yourself to a specific store is to stop by now and then and sniff all the flowers.

Each region is going to have different selection, and quite often those plants don't have tags or aren't correctly labelled, so it's hard to say "Yeah, go get this one." because your store may not carry it and even if they do it may not be labelled.

Anyway, some of the Phalaenopsis (one of the most common type of orchid to find in mass market retailers) are fragrant. Lots of the Oncidium group (the next most common and much more variable group) are fragrant. Plus, if you're on the west coast, your Trader Joes might have Cymbidiums, some of which are quite fragrant.

What are your indoor growing conditions like? How much light can you provide & what are your temps and humidity like? That might help guide you to the appropriate plant(s) for your conditions.

Another thing to keep in mind is that these plants won't be as fragrant in the store as they would be at home in good growing conditions and good light. So, a plant might have a very faint scent in the store, you may need to give it a good whiff. Also, many orchids are only fragrant at certain times of day (or night), so make sure you aren't always visiting at the same time of day if you're doing the sniff test. Some things are most fragrant in the morning, others in the afternoon, a few are fragrant all the time, some just at night.

we got a sweet sixteen from trader joes smells great in the morning. when I took it out of the pot we had two of them (G)
but I did not mean would only buy there. just that Icna't afford an expensive plant. but I just bought her a Oncidium Burgundian in spike a Cattleya Alliance and cool but expensive variegated dendrobium loddigesii.almost all our orchids have smell. but thought it would become getting cymbidium if I can find a fragrant one. so is there one I should look for that won't be too expensive? what about soil mix that I posted what I have on hand?
