I have a question: what is chunky peat? my peat here is "powdery"

Peat is a mix of mostly-decomposed organic matter, and is usually is harvested in large mats from bogs. Most of the horticultural "peat moss" we see is ground, while chinky peat is merely broken into pieces. I like the stuff that's about 2-3 cm size, but find it hard to get.

Some people buy composted cattle manure in bags, and mix it into their Cymbidium potting mixes. It is readily available here in garden centers, intended for use on lawns.

If you have access to horse manure, many people prefer that to cattle manure. I have read of people growing some orchids in nothing but horse manure. I have not tried it.
