Wow. You got yourself a winner. I'm surprised to see all the buds still hanging on after the packing and shipping. I'm curious to hear what the others would say but if this were my plant, I would repot it into a larger pot, keep the back bulbs on and water daily.

I would repot the plant now into a larger pot without disturbing the root system. For one thing, it will give the plant more stability.

I hope I am not too late to keep you from repotting now. NO! NO! Cyms, unlike some other genera, DO NOT LIKE TO BE REPOTTED WHILE IN BLOOM. Wait until a new growth starts and it is through blooming. Leave only one BB and remove the roots from any BB without leaves.

Do not water daily! Keeping any Cym on the dry side after repotting will lessen the damage of root rot. Daily watering will rot every root in the pot!

The plant has a total of about 50 flowers open with about 30 buds still to open. I hope your plant is doing okay.

Thank you Mel Waki for posting your Cym Little Black Sambo! Mine is doing fine, the flowers are opening too. I will post a picture when I get home. Mine look like these flowers. The yellow edge is not as visible as I thought it would be, but maybe the yellow edging will get brighter as the flower ages?

The yellow/cream border reflects a different variety of canaliculatum. The solid dark red is generally termed v. sparksii. There is also an v. alba (uncommon) here in the US, and a green with varying degrees of spots, also a fairly recent introduction into the US. The basic flower form and spike habit are essentially similar.

Hi Matt. I was hoping to see a photo of your flowers. Just as an update on my plant, all of the buds have opened. A few of the older flowers at the beginning of the spike dried up and fell off. The remaining flowers are in excellent condition. I displayed this plant in the Windward Orchid Show this past weekend (March 24-26, 2017) and it was selected by the AOS Judges as the Best Cymbidium in the Show. I did not think that the flowers would last that long but they still look good.
