My friend at safeway picked this up for me, he knew i had been wanting a Cymbidium. This sucker is huge! From the base of the pot to the tip of the leaves is 4 feet. Though I'd like a named variety, I'm loving it!

My advice to anyone without a Cymbidium is to make room!

A name is only relevant if you want to show it or breed with it, this one has depth and potential it is a pity it does not come with a name

I agree. I don't want names for my plants for vanity reasons but it's more of a personal interest. I enjoy looking into the genetic background of my orchids to see what mixtures come up with what and to look into specific cultural requirements. I find it all pretty fascinating!

Regardless, I'm over the moon to have this gorgeous plant example of a cymbidium!

There were at least a dozen of these plants at Safeway yesterday in Mountain View, CA. The photo you showed is of a flower that has been pollinated, as I suspected, as the lip is rosy red. The natural color of the lip is white with the scarlet spots. I think these plants come from Matsui Nurseries in Salinas, a wholesaler noted for not putting labels on his mericlones.
