Unhappy Cymbidium dying ? ?

I just received 5 little orchids last week from Larry's Orchids. They all look healthy except for the poor little cymbidium. The PB is brown and the leaves are turning brown from the bottom. This is my first try at cymbidiums so I am not familiar with how they grow, so I don't know if this is normal for them or not. Do I need to contact Larry's or will it be alright ? ?

Is the bulb soft? If so, I would definitely contact Larry, send him a photo and describe the plant. It appears from your photo as if it might have frozen and it has lost all the center leaves. Not a happy little plant! I cannot tell from the exposure if the leaves are black/brown?

Default My Cym

Hi, Cymladye, The PB was not soft at first, but it is getting softer now. the leaves are brown about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. I have contacted Larry's, but have not heard back yet. There was some kind of tie-up with the post office. Larry's sent them out on Monday, the 3rd, priority 2 day shipping. They did not get here until Friday !

Although my first thought was freeze damage, it also could be brown rot which starts at the base of the bulb and works up. Does the bulb smell funny? The fact your other small plants came through OK, even though there was a delay in delivery, puts more weight on brown rot than on freeze damage.

In any case, I hope Larry replaces your plant, if for nothing more than your good will and keeping a good reputation. I am not familiar with "Larry's Orchids". Was this an eBay purchase?

This was not an ebay purchase. I saw the name somewhere , maybe on another post and googled it and found the web site. Still don't have a reply from them

Just do not let it freeze on your doorstep! This is one of the worst times to ship orchids due to the cold and shipping load of the companies so I hope it comes through safely.
