I live in NY, too (the NY with cows and such) and I have one teeny tiny cym that I am attempting to grow. So thanks bunches for the cultural tips!!! I need all the help I can get.

Just gorgeous - this makes me always a little bit jealous, my very first orchids back in Czech were Cymbidiums, and I love them ever since, they just do not grow well here in Miami (except the few I just recently found as worm growing). I love Cymbidiums, and this one has such a pretty color!

I love the blooms and colour on that one. I too have a budded cymbidium that usually blooms in mid winter. Another one with new spikes started which is a bit early too. Must be the year!

Gorgeous!! I don't own a cymbidium but I will love to add it to my collection ... It's hard to grow orchids in NY- NJ area since the weather changes all the time ... What can we do Mother Nature ... Growing orchids inside

*there is no frost yet and the weather in NY is fluctuating to warm/cold week to week....your cym can still be outdoors to feel the day/night temps and when it reaches low 40's let it indoors...the 30's is quite tricky for them to really take a chance....they would get enough of the cold temps already....we already have heat in our building but some of my orchids are still outdoors

I suggest you get the mini ones for they are warm growing and they do not need to be exposed to the cold...but they are quite pricy tho

its just this plant that spiked the other two of my cyms might still be waiting for more colder night exposure....

You can have the miniature cyms and they do not need to be exposed to cold nights....

these are not expensive orchids....Home Depot or Trader Joe's have some noids but they can be as beautiful and fragrant as the tagged ones you get online or in shows

BUD....congratulations on the results of your efforts. I am from the east coast of Australia and have 3 seedlings from this same cross. I am a beginner who used to read everything I could find about cymbidiums.
I have since found that there is much to learn from people on some sites who have years of experience. My cymbidium Guru lives on your west coast. He has a world-wide reputation for work with all cyms, even heat tolerant ones. He is passionate and sincere. He is happy to give his time to answer questions from learners like I was. Did you know there are some strains which actually do better in warmer climates.
I like your enthusiasm.

That is a beauty! I really love it. I don't have the space and I'm still trying to get my den. kingianums to bloom so I think I will just have to enjoy your pictures. Now, if only you post the fragrance....

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words....
I try to give my Cymbidiums lots of warmth and humidity in the warmer months and try to let it experience cold nights in the fall and put it indoors two weeks before the frost comes....other growers let their cyms experience freezing conditions and it works for them....I do not take a chance with my plants especially with frost.

You can have the miniatures that stands about 8 inches and flowers beautifully as well ....they also give you fragrance(maybe someday we can send through the internet the fragrant smell of our orchids) but the minis are a bit pricy....
