Cymbidium siamense synonym?
Is anyone familiar with Cymbidium siamense? I can't seem to find any information on this species anywhere, which makes me think that it may be a synonym for some other species. If anyone knows what its proper name is (at least according to Kew or some other authority), I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

Under the Cynbidium alliance in OrchidWiz there is a Geodorum (Gdm.) siamense. It's from Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, but not much other info on it. Commonly called the Thai Geodorum and Geodorum means having terrestrial habit. Hope that helps.

Per Kew, siamense is a synonym for Cym. haematodes.

I think the correct name for Cym siamanense is
Cym ensafolium sub var hematodes. From Siam (Thailand)hence Cym siamense. Note that this is the
more heat tollerant form of ensifolium.

Kew accepts Cym. haematodes the correct name for both of the above. |

Toxonomists can wrangle over this but I would label mine Cym ensifolium ssp haematodes. Would also take the book "Heat Tolerant Cymbidiums" by Kaenratana (2009) into consideration.

I am not certain if haematodes is legitimately an ssp or a syn. and as you know, there are other ssp of sinense. Taxonomists - lumpers or splitters - you gotta love 'em.  |
