Just found this link that might help: Epsom Salts and Orchid Culture by Peter Spencer

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Great info!!! Thanks for the article link. I think I will start using these Epsom salts to see what happens.

I just logged in to find the info on epsom salts about phals to discover this thread and link, so thanks so much for the information Ross.

As to the topic at hand, I've noticed that most of my plants are blooming more this year. But I grow in doors and I've been giving most of my orchids fert. for flowers more this year than before so that might have something to do with it.

I use the Epsom salts on the Phals . and switch to a low nitrogen Fert. in the fall on the Cymbids. High nitrogen gives green growth , Low is supposed to promote blooms ( your milage may vary) Gin

Agree, Gin

I found lots of links regarding using Epsom salts with orchids (esp. Phals.) and came to the conclusion that if I continue with MSU mix I'm OK for now. Sure hope Ray joins in here soon
