Hi KP, I grow cymbids and they are normally outside from May (after frost warnings) till approx end of Sept. I run them in or out if I have to with frost in the fall/spring. They will flower just fine for you in the spring indoors. I'm sure my climate w/b very similar to yours.

I'm in a similar position to the OP, except that I can't put them outside at all...even during the summer. I'm on the top floor of a tall condo with great light from a south-western exposure, but I have no balcony or outside space to speak of. During the afternoon my light meter pushes past its 5000 foot candle max, so I'm fairly confident I have enough light to bloom them. I'm concerned about the required temperatures though.
They're currently sitting on a tiled ledge right up against my windows. I'm hoping that the temperatures there during the winter (esp. at night) will go low enough to initiate blooming. Do you think I have any hope?

Have grown cymbidiums in S. California, Connecticut and Florida. Connecticut matches your conditions - bring them in when there is a chance of freezing but keep them out as much as possible. In Florida and S.California that is all year most years.

Thanks to you all for the tips on the care of my cymbidiums. I'm going to move them outside till the fall. It does snow very early here in Switzerland. But its worth a try. Liza

I still can't get my cymbids to flower, what would be the ideel temp. to get then going again??? Or shall I just dump them as our climit never reaches more than about 28 in the summer
