You are so right it always seems to be your best plant, but that is why I enjoy the OB you can always learn from the mistakes of others. You can be sure that if someone gives advice here it is because they have been there and done that !!

Hi Alan, get right back on the horse and go out and buy yourself a new plant. It will cheer you up to have nice green and growing plant around!
When I lose a plant I use it as an excuse to get a new one!

Alan don't let this experience discourage you. Go buy another orchid or two. You live in Texas so a phaleonopsis might be a good choice. They like being warm. You will learn lots with every one you get. Also stay on the board. It is fun and you will learn from the other members. Carol

Without getting in too deep with the culture, I think I would be changing the place I purchased my Cyms in the future. The place you purchased this plant DOESN"T know how to grow cyms. They could be setting you up for the same problems you had with the first plant.

Alan, I'm having trouble with Cyms. too.
I think the first thing you need to do is try to find out if you have a warm growing cym or a cool growing cym. In Texas (I can't remember exactly where Allen is) you have the heat to contend with.

The most common mistake folks make with Cyms is that they treat them as if they are epiphytes and will under water them, give them a "drying out period" this is a hugh mistake as they are semi terrestrials and if they are hybrids then it would be best to treat them as terrestrial. A hybrid Cym should never be allowed to dry out. I water my plants at least 3 times a week . If the weather is warm ,I will wet the whole plant and make sure that enough nutrient enriched oxygenated water goes through the media to completely flush out the spent nutrient. If the weather is cold then I will only flush out the media making sure to keep the plant as dry as possible . Giving the plant a drying out time as suggested in some books will damage the plant a little every time,as you can see from the plants you purchased
Alan, the plants purchased from stores are usually seedlings, if they are well grown then then each new bulb should be larger than the previous bulb. The bulbs should also be fat and healthy definitely not dry and shriveled.
