My flower spikes are coming along quite nicely. I can't wait to see them bloom. Of course the real test will be next summer if I can get them to bloom again.

Woo hoo! Take a whiff, too... fragrance of Cym. Golden Elf 'Sundust' reminds me of baby powder. Flowers don't last as long as the more "standard" Cyms, so enjoy them in the moment.

Oh I did!

I sat down (kneeled) and really took a minute to be appreciating all the blessings.

My step mother is very fond of the shechechianu prayer (for those who don’t know, it thanks god for bringing you to this moment; it is said at first experiences and moments of significance) and it taught me to look for excuses to be grateful and to also take a second to experience the feeling of gratitude (to god and you in this case lol) because it is a kind of emotion that is both humbling and emboldening and that’s pretty special!!

So thanks for that moment

Also I said the shechechianu

Had to go outside and inhale around Brassavola nodosa. And Neofinetia falcata. The night smells so sweet. Another of those things where you just have to be there.

Here's one of my "hot Cyms"... Cym. Chen's Ruby. It's 'way early this year... usually blooms some time in September, then sometimes again in October or November. But this one started opening a couple of weeks ago... end of July! Some of the flowers are a bit misshapen, having been attacked by thrips as buds. Spotted another spike just getting going - probably 3 weeks. Maybe that one will get the benefit of my copious spraying. Fragrant, and flowers have normal Cym lasting power (6 weeks or so) unlike its parent Cym. Golden Elf, whose flowers only last a week to 10 days. Other parent is Cym. iridioides, which has a more "normal" Cymbidium pattern though it does bloom pretty early in the season.

It obviously doesn't need a fall cooldown to initiate spikes...

Some of the spikes on mine are starting to show buds. They are all first bloom plants, so I don't think any of them is going to have very many flowers at once, but I'll be so thrilled when they bloom. I'll be even more thrilled if I can get them to bloom again next summer hahahahaha
