Default Cym. Barrita Princess 'Princess'

I only recently acquired two of these orchids that have very elegant flowers. Very nicely named.

The orchids spiked and were in late bud stage when they arrived - from down south - cold region. Some buds didn't make the transition, but the rest pulled through nicely, which was really great.

A privilege to be able to see the buds progress to flowering here in the tropics. Also a privilege to share photos taken this morning of two of the Cym. Barrita Princess 'Princess' flowers.

One flower captured from each plant - as can be seen from the different markings/patterns on the lip.

Here are some more nice shots to share - under different morning light conditions. It was bright and extremely windy the other day. These photos here are taken with no wind, and much less sunlight. The flowers opened a bit more, and can even see some purply colour on the front of the column of one flower.

Looks like the tropical conditions bring out LESS of the pink colours that these flowers could otherwise have when flowering in cold climates. The colours can be significantly more in cold regions, where even the lip fringe and column can have incredibly elegant pink/purply colours.

Some flash photography images too, to get the crispier look - less realistic, but quite nice visually.

Just noting again that the photos themselves prior to upload are fairly sharp.

But the automatic OrchidBoard processing software compresses the images more - so some loss of 'quality' in images can sometimes be seen.

Eg. before upload, a file could be 300 kilobyte for a 1024x768 image. But after upload (and automatic re-compressing done by OrchidBoard software), the image could just become only 90 kilobyte. Naturally, a significant amount of image detail is thrown out. This is no problem for me ------- just mentioning that this is just what happens.

Understandable - since if everyone keeps uploading 300 kB images, then the hard drive of the orchidboard server would need to store much more digital data for uploaded images

=======================

Update: 20-June-2020

Back to natural (no flash).

Interestingly - almost a year later now since the last post -------- in the tropics here --- I noticed that both of my Cym. Barrita Princess 'Princess' orchids ----- in separate pots have developed flower spikes.

I assumed that these temperate climate orchids wouldn't have much of a chance to develop flower spikes.

So it looks like there's a chance to get flowers. We will see! That is ----- hard to say if the spikes will actually make it to the bud stage, and then onward to the flowering stage ----- as I have read that if it's too warm, then the spike growing or budding process can just shut down all of a sudden.

Fingers crossed anyway.

Just uploading pics of the spike - photographed toward the end of last month, and one phone-pic from yesterday.

The other plant (of the same clone batch) has a spike like this too. I'm assuming they are flower spikes. And if they are - it will be interesting to see if they can hold up during their development. Will see how things pan out!!! Hopefully it makes it hehe
