Default Grammatophyllum elegans

My Gramm. elegans keeps initiating and then aborting spikes... but these have survived. The flowers on the bottom of the spikes are evenly brown but the color becomes blotchy towards the top. Not the most 'elegant' but happy to see them bloom.

It is very difficult growing this plant in my bedroom in a pot... It seems to want lots of water and simultaneously be dry.

Jeff, You may want to pose your questions on this genus on another forum - Beginning or Advanced. No one here seems able to answer you. I suspect the admins lumped this genus in the Cymbidium Forum for scientific reasons, even though the growing conditions are entirely different from the majority of Cym. species and hybrids currently in cultivation.

Thanks, Cym_Ladye, for the advice.

I'll try to figure this on my own but if I have additional questions on Grammatophyllums, I'll post it on the Beginner forum.
