In March 2006 there was an ad in the newspaper that there was a group trying to form an Orchid Club. My wife and I attended even tho we had only 1 orchid given to us by a friend. Today, June 2008 we have a greenhouse and approx. 185 plus orchids and enjoying every day having them.

Really do admire those of you who really are collectors. Suffice to say, I am still only a dabbler. The longer I keep reading this board, the harder it is to maintain that status. You guys make it hard.
I admire those who have the discipline and self control to keep their collections small and manageable. Sometimes I feel like I'm swimming in plants, and only a select few get all of their needs met. I just can't resist temptation sometimes!

Sometimes it's not always discipline & self control. When you get too many plants than you can reasonably take care of they start dying off from neglect. Sort of culls the herd. Survival of the strongest. The numbers drop down, you get things under control again. Oh the guilt!

Hi Des ... I mainly row cattleyas, but also have a few oncids, lots of dens, phrags, stanhopea, coelogne ... the list goes on .. and tomorrow I am going away on a bus trip with 50 other growers from my orchid society .. we plan on visiting 3 orchid nurseries every day for 3 days, so goodness knows what I'll come home with. I must add that my count doesnt include divisions or little ones just deflasked .. the climate helps, I havnt even had to water this year so far ..

I have about a hundred. . .and am holding steady.

We're planning on building a big orchidarium the length of our stairway. I intend to fill it up, museum display style with all my orchids in Erin Pottery pots.

I'll be able to fill up my work plant stand. . .done.

And have a orchid nursery for ones that need a time out or for little special ones that need babying. . .once this is filled up, my shopping work will have to be done.

So I am already very nearly maxed out now at a 100, of course, there is always room for a few more minis or mounted minis!

And if I can possible swing a sunroom, all bets are OFF! Muh Hah ha

Had up to 65 last year, but a hard winter took it's toll on my collection when the night temp dropped to 1 Deg C. Who would expect the breaker for the heater to trip? Right back up to 36 orchids now though, and hoping to add 30 new species in January.

23? Wow! There must be room for one more. Right?

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

I have about more or less 50 and my addiction started July or Aug. this year. I'm also switching to miniatures due to space limitation.

Anybody knows any Orchid Rehab that I can go to?
