Oh, I knew I wanted to ask something..... I looked at the poll and there are 3 people on the OB with over 1000 orchids!!  Who are you guys?? Just curious. Id also like to send out a  to those members with over 1000 orchids!

I have about 2000 but most are seedling cymbidiums .I have about 50 catts and about 50 flowering size cymbids
the rest are a mixture of various genera. Keeps me busy.

Royal my seedling cymbids keep me busier than all the others put together. Growing seedling cymbids is like driving a car , you dare not let the steering go for a second or you are lost !! Also here in PE the moment you put out a batch of seedlings all the gogos (bugs) in the area come to visit!!

Just counted mine this morning so I can work on getting my list posted. Count stands at 34. Started in 2001, so that's a pretty small inventory, but constrained by space & plantcare time. Making a determined effort not to have more than I can reasonably care for. Maybe one day I will go all out for the chids, but thus far have been able to maintain a modicum of control. Really do admire those of you who really are collectors. Suffice to say, I am still only a dabbler. The longer I keep reading this board, the harder it is to maintain that status. You guys make it hard.

I fully agree with the wisdom of keeping only that which is doing well/thriving, but too often do not follow that advice.
I, too have found it difficult to give up on a really poor looking plant, only to find that if you keep tending it j-u-s-t a little longer it may reward you and finally join that thriving list. I find it hard to give up until the realization hits that I am probably not going to resurrect a dried stick.:

HMMM I feel a wee bit guilty I've been growing orchids for about 6 years now and have over 1,500 ... I know and love each one individually ..Luckily I have a large backyard and conditions are justperfect for orchid growing ... Margaret ( in Australia )
