Have you tried Adenium (dessert rose), Gin and Jerry?
No, not right now. But, after looking at some of the pictures I might give them a try.
Gin, both my wife and I were born and raised in northwest Missouri so I know what you mean. I had a fairly large lathe house that housed them in the summer, but all went into the greenhouse during the winter. While they grew just fine, blooms were scarce.
Hedge, I can't even begin to imagine the challange that growing cacti there must present. I never tried it, but would growing under lights be an option.
Here, they just stay outside year round. They haven't been watered since last October! Nice to have such tough plants!

I love risk taking... if you never try, well, you'll never succeed, will you?

I have seen larger plants of Grammatophylum Speciosum. I would love to have one actually, but they get so huge. I have always wondered what a hybrid between it and a standard cymbidium would be like, seeings it has been done with smaller flowered species.

Still this one is a dream orchid for me unless I win the lottery

I have seen these hybrids with the small species. Love to see some with Speciosum though.

Jumbo Orchids is doing interesting with work Cymbidium intergenerics. The Chinese version has some picsÅwªï¥úÁ{¬ÃÄ_Äõ¶é

My worst choice was Dendrobium Cuthbertsonii before I had a wardian case and a humidifier.

OMG!! How long have you had the gramm. speciosum? How big is it? what do you feed it (besides small pets) LOLOLOL

My teeny one is growing 2 bulbs. It's currently in a 4 inch pot. Will I be able to see it grow in my lifetime?

I was joking, I dont own it. I just wish. However my growing is done in a wardian case with Minis. That plant was for sale at a market.

It is a monster though. I wish I had space for one
