...and I am more than confident that you (as well as me and all others here) will improve your technique and next year we all will have magnifique pictures...
Thanks Ramon for your wise words. I agree with you in all you said.

Actually, i took this winning photo about a month before i heard about this contest, and the flower had allready shrivelled that time and i couldn't take additional photos any more.

See you all in next year contest ...

I do not think the contest/pictures should be about perfection , nothing is perfect, some of us do not have expensive cameras or the means to buy one or the experience using them if that is what is expected there will be a lot less entries next time .
This is an orchid forum not a photography forum . Orchids are beautiful nit picking is not . gin

Just my quick thought. I understand if the photo has to be manipulated in order to get a reasonably clean shot to fit the calendar should not be used. But photos that are usable but not perfect should be voted on by the members and allow them to decide whats makes the cut. Some times a imperfections make the shot. And I hate to think someone will not submit a photo because its not perfect. After all it is a OB members calendar. And you believed my when I said quick

I think there needs to be some balance in the process. While I agree that ideally composition, lighting, focus etc. should be as close to perfect as we can get it you also have to keep in mind the subject matter. I don't care how well composed and perfect the photo is if it's of a boring/common subject then it really doesn't speak to me. That's why I liked Mauros picture. The plant was unique...amost weird, but it got my attention. That's also probably why I don't buy calendars with perfect pictures of cute fluffy kittens. I liked the creativity many showed just in their choice of plant.

Congratulations to everyone whose photos won the vote for the 2009 calander. I was actually surprised that mine made the cut, as it was my first entry in a photo contest, and I think there are a lot of folks with better photo talent than mine. In any event, it is the Trichoglottis brachiata being used for November. Oh, by the way...that plant won a blue ribbon last Thurday for the medium species category at my local orchid society meeting. I guess that plant was just meant to be a winner.

I ordered 2 calanders today, and i can't wait for them to arrive.

A testament to how diversely rich our member base is. 3 winning calendars were sent to Finland, Switzerland and Brazil. Again, congrats to all, you should be getting your calendars in about 2 weeks. We truly are a global community!
