I'd say "all of the above", if I knew what you meant by "augmentation".

(I hope your ribs don't hurt from that friendly poke.)

K....by augmentation, I mean anything to augment natural conditions: artificial light, fans, humidifiers, gremlins....LeBron (who will again be growing in Ohio.)

PS: Obviously, I should have added, by augmentation, in no way do I mean anything BREAST RELATED.

I am adverse to all things tacky.

Is the 'arg" an expression of frustration? As in "arghhhhhh!"?

Just to say, I keep waiting for someone to vote for "other" and elaborate: "I live and grow in a rainforest, but one with warpseed broadband & high end DVR."

I am presently going through a period of adjustment...

I live on a postage stamp sized lot which has a fourteen room, three story old house built on it (it’s actually two lots, but it’s still a really small lot for this size house). I had an outdoors grow area, but I tore it down and have yet to replace it. It was a very small lathe house, but it was all to pieces when I moved in. I don’t really have any other area outdoors which is appropriately shaded where orchids would do well in summer. It’s either all full sun, or all full shade (the north side of the house, which is just a passageway; Hostas and ferns do well there). I’ll eventually probably add a small greenhouse in place of the lathe house, since there is an existing concrete pad. I also tore down the added on sun room, which was having roof problems. Whoever built it didn't know what they were doing. I might have tried to keep it had it had skylights or corrugated polycarbonate as roofing. Anyway, I want more room to grow, but still need to do additional planning and construction.

So anyway, that's some details.

Edit: Here's my current area indoors, which I am in the process of revamping. I'll be adding wire shelving in front of the window that's behind (there's also light which streams from the left, i.e. west); replacing an old fluorescent ceiling fixture; and doing some painting, etc.

LUV these details! I suddenly got, I sometimes suffer from the grass is always greener phenomenon in this! Unique realities are far more complex than I realize.

I adore you have the concrete pad, forget the chopper, do the greenhouse!

Now, I live in a famous, high end, pre war, Landmark building in Manhattan. It is run like the inside of a Patek. Above our PH floor is our top PH.....elevator doesn't go up to it, there is a wondrous angled, multi colored slate stairway that does. It has appeared in several movies. It has an 800 square foot terrace....terra cotta tiles; statuary from 1931, a fountain, trees....and...a potting shed. Only costs just under 10K a month to live there; some international Wall St type does part of the year, he throws uber parties.

Think of the orchids I could grow there! I could easily have a greenhouse too! I have an image from Google Earth from above...I will find it and put it up.

Meantime, think GREENHOUSE!!!!

K, got it....water tower enclosed in stone with gargoyles indicated by turquoise square; terrace in question indicated by yellow square. 18 stores up from the street.

I can see the greenhouse....in my mind, I mean.

Edit: just caught fab image of yr indoor growing area! Pristine! Everything is bursting with health! I can see why you need light augmentation.....again I never get over feeling so lucky, that with some ingenuity, I can do without it.

GOOD JOB!!!!!

Sorry, I realized I should have uploaded another image of the building to give some depth perspective, but we can't upload more than we upload initially, so will do it here. Also just learned that flat is much higher than what I last heard per month. But hey, when it's Gordon Gekko money, who cares?

Nobody who grows orchids....will ever live there. Bettcha.
You can throw the parties and grow the orchids a la fois!
