Default Coelogyne Unchained Melody in bloom

cristata x flaccida

I got this last May from a local OS sale (members sales) - looks to be a division. It had a spike (no buds) at that time, but it aborted with the change in environment - of course, weather was quite toasty that week ...

Early last autumn, I noticed two new little growths - one on each of the newest pbulbs. I was baffled, as I didn't expect to see anything happening at that time of year - and I also had no clue if the new growth were spikes or new pbulbs ... but, with something growing, I kept on watering (tho it needed much less water in winter) and fertilizing through fall and winter. They grew slowly, but finally towards the end of winter I could see buds on one! Buds on the other became visible after the first spike had most of it's buds open.

This has grown outdoors on my east-facing, sheltered porch all year. It's been potted in chc mix (plastic pot) since August. Blooms are a bit over 2" across.

So far, it's been an easy grower and bloomer for me.

The first two photos are from just after the first spike's buds were mostly fully open - March 24. The other photos are after the second spike's buds were mostly fully open - April 4. I kept spotting aphids on blooms when I was taking pictures on the 4th! You can just see some in the pix

Anyhoo ... thanks for looking!
