Some more Dendrochilums Male
Default Some more Dendrochilums (updated March)

Again all plants from the collection of my parents. Some of the pictures not so great but really got some nice shots of the glumaceum. Not 100% sure on all the names.

Added some pictures

Dendrochilum species intersting the last one was suspected to be tortilis but the with first one the flower are twisted (tortilis) around the spike. The first one looks a lot like Dendrochilum bicallosum. But the petals are different in shape.

Dendrochilum spec.

Dendrochilum tortile and Dendrochilum spec.

Dendrochilum tortile

Dendrochilum tenellum

Dendrochilum wenzelii (only one spike this year).

Dendrochilum glumaceum (great smell)

Dendrochilum cobbianum

Dendrochilum convallariaeforme var minor

Dendrochilum pulcherrimum

Dendrochilum stenophyllum #3

Lovely variety, Rob! Seems you have no difficulty in growing dendrochilums, unlike myself.

Well Rob, I just love all of these - photos are great!
I don't have any but working on it this summer, just gotta find me a smallish grower.

Uh oh Shirley, you've got me on alert now, LOL. Whatta think makes them hard to grow?
I've heard they really dislike being transplanted.
Is this true Rob?

Don't know exactly they are grown by my parents. I think they like to grow more humid then other orchids (thin roots).

Hi Rob

Great photos. You've done well with Dendrochilum pulcherrimum, I know how hard it is to get a photo like yours of that species. I love the different angles on the Dendrochilum glumaceum as well.

@Lagoon, this is a varied genus and there is an abundance of generalised information on the internet. However, I wouldnt apply the generalised information to every species in this genus. Some species are warm/hot growing (sea level on mangroves in Singapore) some grow as high as 3800 metres on Mount Kinabalu and should be grown cool. I have even had better success with a couple of species by growing them indoors. I have found that sufficient air movement (even more so if humidity is higher), water quality and little root disturbance are important with the genus as a whole. Give them a try, it is a great genus.

If you are after small (ish) species try, Dendrochilum parvulum, pulogense, gracile, microchilum, arachnites, warrenii, auriculare and philippinense.

Cheers
Trey

Hi Rob

The NOID looks like the newly described Dendrochilum tortile. Mine is in flower at the moment as well.

This species was described along with two others by Henrik in the latest Malesian Orchid Journal. It isnt on the Kew monocot list yet.

Cheers
Trey
