I'm not a reall specialist on Pleione but I'd say they would like to be maximum half covered or not covered at all.

I grow a few and from my experience most of Pleiones like to be half covered. Then again the pseudobulb of my P. 'Piton' that came from national collection holder Mr. Ian Butterfield is completely burried so I guess there's a reason for it. Probably comes down to the parentage. I follow the cultural advice given at The Pleione Website. To quote this site: A few seem to prefer being completely buried (P. bulbocodioides, yunnanensis, limprichtii and scopulorum). I hope you find this usefull.

Hey Rosie- Just spotted this hybrid on the site posted above: http://www.pleione.info/images/hybri...Redpoll-S2.jpg

It's listed as Erebus 'Redpoll'. Does it look like yours?

Yes, does look pretty similar, although the lip on mine is pinker.

If it is that it's strange the nursary did not have it tagged as that as they are usually pretty good at accurate taging.

Here's a pic of mine in flower, what do you think, maybe the difference is just cultural.

My main bulb isn't showing any sign of dying back yet, either - I think you have to reduce the watering now

Thanks Rob & Zdenglan, I think I'll try putting it just a bit further down when I repot.

Hedge, it is dying back now (this pic I just posted was from the spring as a comparison for the flower Izzie posted) and has actually wrinkled enough for the two 'keikis'/'bulbils' to have dropped off in the last couple of days. I actually started a seperate thread to ask what to do with them, can't remember if that was yesterday morning or this morning.

The growth that had the flower has also fattened into a nice new bulb.

Hmm, here it is offered from Edrom Nurseries: Nursery Specialities - Pleione - Pleione Erebus Redpoll - Edrom Nurseries

I think it is the same hybrid. From the other Pleione Erebus I've found on google, they look very very similar. Culture can definitely affect flower color. Has yours been getting more sun than usual? Perhaps that caused the red to present more strongly.

Thanks Izzie. There are actually two threads about this one because this was an old thread and there is a new one as well.

Anyway over on the other one Andrew has said he thinks it could be the same one as you posted (he had seen it on this thread). Aparently the RHS tend to put more enphasis on registering cultivar names rather than hybrid names with this particular genus ... therefore a tag with just the genus and cultivar is more likely than it would be with other orhcids.

I really like the idea of knowing what this is, thanks for posting the links you found
