Do they just start up on their own? Or do they respond once you start the watering? If the latter, when do you start first watering?

Yes, they just begin growing on their own once their dormancy needs have been met. You start watering when they break dormancy, which seems to be around March here. I suspect they have some sort of internal clock and break dormancy on their own timing cues.

Default pleiones overwintering

I overwinter mine in the fridge, it's the easiest way to control the cool temperatures they require. Depending on your zone, some species may be happy overwintering outside.

Here is a list of sources of what I found when I put together my Jewel Orchid web journal in which I had a page for Pleiones.
I grow mine outside in net pots and must confess that I tend to ignore them. I guess I better start getting religious again Dont want end up in the wrong seat!!!
