Default Coelogyne Jannine banks - Sydney, Australia

Hi,

I bought a coelogyne Jannine Banks at an Orchid fair.
I'm based in Sydney, Australia,NSW.
I'm wondering what's the most convenient area in the house for growing this species.
Is it better to keep it outdoors uncovered, e.g. under a tree or outdoors but under a roof?
Can it be an issue if the flowers get wet?

Thanks!

Cecilia

Welcome! They like lots of water. Put it where it won't dry out.

This is a primary hybrid, parents are Coel. mooreana and Coel flaccida. Based on that, it should do fine outdoors in Sydney. The time to make the transition is early spring, which is coming soon for you. Then it will have plenty of time to acclimate before next winter's chill. (Coelogynes come from a range of elevations, some need warmth but many including the parents of this one can grow cool, down to near frost if acclimated) Bright shade would be about the right amount of light.

I agree, Matthew's video style is very entertaining and informative.
His mantra of growing without any artifical aids I've found very helpful, it's given me a few more orchids I didn't think I would be able to grow to add to my wanted list.

CeciliaLM....
Check out his video list on YT, he has done a couple of spotlight videos on his Coelogynes.
The link below will take you to his first Coelogyne video
