Encyclia (Dinema) polybulbon pollinator?
Default Encyclia (Dinema) polybulbon pollinator?

I've just noticed that my Encyclia polybulbon has not one but 4 seed pods, which would tend to mitigate against accidental pollination. Does anyone know whether this species is autogamous, or know what its natural pollinator is?

A fly? That's what I'm think of these days as I am waging war and I have seen them all over my orchids.

If it's a pollinator, it would have to be very small as the flowers are small. My suspicions fall more towards autogamy.

The natural pollinator from the Caribbean, Central America, etc. probably isn't in Queensland. I can't find anything about pollinators for this species, but since it can have a sweet daytime scent a small bee may be likely. Many orchids do tend toward autogamy as flowers age though.
