Yes - another Better Go orchid. It bloomed a couple years ago, buds developing right after I re-established it in volcanic scoria as a growing medium. This is the second bloom for me.

IMO, scoria ('lava rock') is the perfect growing medium for this one under my indoor - outdoor conditions.

Very pretty! I almost bought one of these several years ago when I first discovered Better Gro orchids, but the coconut fragrance of Maxillaria tenuifolia was too tempting. Now if the damned thing would ever bloom I'd feel better about my choice....... btw this thread isn't helping! I am finding that leca does for me what lava rock does for you. It makes Cattleya easy!

Very nice. I sure wish we had Better Grow Bag Babies in Canada. Well, maybe I would just go crazy buying plants then

Thanks everyone.

I actually am a bit confused by the parentage of this plant. This only came up because someone at my Northeast Georgia Orchid Society meeting asked me about parentage. The plant was clearly tagged, no question the ID on the tag is as stated in the title. However, per the Royal Horticultural Society registry, the nothogenus name has apparently changed, and there are two Cattleya alliance hybrids with the epithet Charlie Brown. I am not sure, but I think both are red. I should be able to sort it out, will let you know what I find.

Yes, RHS lists Enanthleya Charlie Brown (Cattlianthe Rojo x Encyclia cordigera) and Guaricyclia Charlie Brown. (Guarianthe bowringiana x Encyclia correllii)Guarianthe bowringiana x Encyclia correllii). The problem is that a Google search for either grex name turns up exactly the same photos for both grexes. Based on flower characteristics of the parents, I think this should be what RHS calls Enanthleya Charlie Brown? Oscarman, can you confirm from photos on Orchidwhiz? Thanks!
