Default Lc. Ballet Folklorico 'Eloquence' (Lc. Song of Norway x L. grandiflora)

I got this 5 years ago, a good sized plant. I decided to repot, I cut off a small back bulb which I put in a small 2 inch pot and repotted the rest in a six inch pot. It got off to a strong start growing outdoors here in Southern California, I went on vacation and 10 days later I came home to a rotted dying plant. Well that little back bulb survived, sent out a small growth which then continued putting out more growths until it finally bloomed this last month. I love the lip on this one, inherited from Laelia grandiflora (aka L. speciosa), a species from Mexico.

That is fantastic, I really like the lip too. I am sorry about the bigger plant, but I am happy this division made it for you.

I love it. I have been eyeing this one for over a year, trying to decide if I should get one. I don't need any new orchids so they need to be considered carefully. Can you tell me how big this plant gets and is it an unruly grower or anything unusual as far as Cattleyas go?

To Silken, I've been amazed at how short the pseudobulbs are on this one, more like small squat eggs in shape than tall rangy ones, and they are spaced quite close together. I've been getting about 2 new ones per season. The leaves are standard size. The original green house grown plant had taller pseudobulbs, but still pretty squat and thick as I recall. Mine is growing outdoors all year long with full sun so that might explain it.

Thanks for the info. I did look in OrchidWiz and was surprised to see the one parent Laelia grandiflora does have quite small pseudo bulbs and not a very large plant. I somehow though it would be on the large size. I think I need one Is it scented?

Well then I do think you need one

From what I've read, L. grandiflora is scented, but I don't recall a noticeable scent on this hybrid.
