Buds were blasted last year. Today at least six (or more) buds are coming. I am extremely nervous and hope the blooming would be successful.

Anyone able to explain what causes bud blast?

Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Is there anything that doesn't cause bud blast in one case or another? In a strong healthy plant with no insect or disease problems and no physical damage to buds or spike, the most likely causes of bud blast are usually temperature, humidity or moisture problems - not necessarily extremes but perhaps just out of sync with the plant's seasonal needs, or a rapid change.

That plant looks very healthy. Looking forward to seeing more pics as the flowers develop.

I agree. I am interested to know other than the external factors, would there be any internal factor causing bud blast. Sometimes, of a two-bud healthy plant, one bud bloomed and the other did not.

Thank you for your kind words. One of the main characteristics of Cattleya nobilior is that it blooms from the stem emerging from the base of the p-bulb instead of the apex of the p-bulb.

At the end of January, this No ID nobilior had 6 growths of which three were flower growths carrying a total of 13 buds

---------- Post added at 10:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:16 PM ----------

One day in February, I had to move the plant indoor as the temperature was forecasted to drop to 5゜C or even lower. The temperature did drop to below 5゜C and the cold weather had lasted for about a week.
A few days later after I put back the plant outdoor, I found the buds of one of the flower growths were turning yellow. I said to myself not to worry as I still had two flower growths. But it was very very sad that within a week or so, all the six growths were dead.
I was very frustrated and had thought of discarding the plant as it had bud blasted before. When I calmed down I knew my thinking was totally wrong. Bud blooming and blasting are both part of the game. I have to accept both of them.

One day in March when I examined the plant, I saw a new growth emerged. To my surprise, I found later the plant had a total of six growths of which three were flower growths (all emerged from the base of the dead flower growths). The six dead growths had resurrected.
Today, all the flowers are blooming. A very dramatic blooming.
