Spotted Cattleyas
Over the last couple of years, I have purchased a number of spotted Cattleyas, including quite a few seedlings from Sunset Valley Orchids (Frank Clarke). I just bloomed the best one yet.
This is (Mark Jones x Katherine Clarkson), an as yet unnamed hybrid. It started opening on Sunday, and is about fully open now. The color is still maturing; it started sort of olive green, and is maturing into a more orange/yellow background.
Not only does it have good shape and excellent distribution of the spots, but it is also fragrant, which is somewhat unusual for this type of breeding.
In the 2nd photo, it is photographed next to Cattleya Lulu Land for reference.

Ohhhh be still my heart. I had a Mark Jones years ago and loved it. I currently have Lulu Land. It's not yet blooming size but growing nicely.

That is a gorgeous spotted one! I bet Fred Clark would like to see it. I have one of his crosses that I am waiting for a first bloom of 2 buds. They will open in the next few days I think. It is Mark Jones x Lucky Charms of which I have never found a picture. It is an un-named cross as well. But my buds look solid burgundy so I am a bit worried it won't have spots  ??
I sure hope mine is as nice as yours. |

Definitely a winner! I bought some of his spotted cattleya seedlings also but none have bloomed yet. I would be thrilled if one of them turns out as nice as yours.

It is blooming on a lead bulb, that is about 5" tall. I suspect that it will grow somewhat taller, but hopefully not much over 8".

Here is another spotted Cattleya from Fred Clarke. This one is a remake of Cattleya Katherine Clarkson. I have several of these, and this one is the best so far.
Photo is taken just before the flowers start to fade, as the yellow color intensifies with age (it started a bit 'greenish').
And, if you notice the 'lines' in the background, those are all spikes on 1st bloom seedlings from Fred's Laelia anceps program. They will go into a new thread when they start to bloom.
