Default Cattleya mossiae

Just a little mossiae. Growing in semihydro in a 5 gallon ice cream pail from the local dairy. Some of the flowers are a little old...

Well grown! Are you growing by using the standard s/h method or just using the hydroton as media?

Nice Cattleya, good grown and with good flower qualities. But from the lip coloration I doubt it is mossiae.

i dont think that plant is a mossiae.

it looks like the willowbrook clone , in which case it is not a mossiae either.

a flower closeup would be good, (just to be sure)

Same plant, different blooming. If it isn't mossiae, I don't know what it is. Has always been labelled mossiae since I got it...

i would probably think that this might be a xgravesiana x mossiae .

there are a few exceptional plants labeled as mossiae, but they are probably more likely xgravesiana. or a xgravesiana being crossed again with a mossiae.

it is a beautiful plant indeed. just not a pure mossiae for me. please feel free to look after other opinions. just shared mine .

I've had it for the better part of 15 years, I'd guess. Probably came with a bunch of other plants from a grower I bought out.

I did just look through the AOS awards to C. mossiae, and mine would be very competitive... Although within the range of forms to the awards. Which means, most likely that there are a lot of mislabeled 'mossiae' out there. And probably a lot of backcrossing with the mislabeled ones. Just like besseae and dalessandroi, never going to sort this one out, I suspect.

I'm reluctant to change a tag, but I'll make a note that it might be xGravesiana. I never display this plant, it is too big for me to get to shows usually, and it blooms at a bad time of year. Just pretty for me.

hi,

there is a lot of problems with some cattleyas, and it might be a truly exceptional "rubra" with solid lip mossiae. please keep in mind that my "judgement" comes from posted pictures, cant smell it, and cant look to other vegetative aspects of the plant that will help clear if the plant is pure. in the meantime this is an act of faith . still it is a really nice plant to look at.

with your permission i would like to share this pictures to some of my venezuelan friends (i am also venezuelan, although i live in mexico city) .

i would gladly share their opinions here, if that is ok.

happy saturday!

Antonio.
