Well, what can't we fix with a little bit of fertilizer, water and a toothpick....  ! Here's the Cattleya warscewiczii I broke off the other day! Beautiful, uh? Who would tell the flower stem is broken!

Great thinking on the repair. No sense missing out on a great photo, eh? Great thing about that blue is in Photoshop you can substitute a different background.

Very nice work and nice flower!! I agree, I like the blue background. Was the stem completely severed? Or just bent? If it was just bent, will it continue to receive nutrients not that you straightened it??

Tindo, the stem was completely cut off the plant. Not just bent. I put it in the water with some fertilizer until the flowers completely open. Then I used the toothpick trick to fix it back to the remaining stem portion on the plant. It is a common trick we use here when a flower breaks in a show or something. If both parts are close enough to make a good contact, the flower will receive some water/nutrient and, in general, keep OK for one or two days provided the environment is not too hot. |
