I purchased this clone last year from Odom's Orchid Nursery and this is it's first flowering. In the last 2 years I have invested a hefty collection from online in 2 1/2" to 5" pots from various nurserys because I finally know what I'm doing to grow and flower successfully. This dark purple opened several days ago and I am so pleased! (I think it should be awarded soon) I had to put a white background behind it to bring out the rich dark color. It has very good substance and a nice "orchid fragrance". Hope you find it as beautiful and I do.

Very beautiful and gorgeous photo too! I have one of these but haven't got it to bloom yet. Does it take really high light?

Glad you all like it also. And yes, I guess it gets high light (very bright indirect light). My solarium is a south room with 6 large glass panes ( 3' wide x 6' high each). I have 2 dead-air spaces created by stretching a piece of 4 mil transluscent plastic on the outside and a piece of 3 mil on the inside that i buy from Lowes. When late spring and summer come, I take them both off when the sun is overhead and they get only direct sun in early morning and late afternoon. I also have an evaporative cooler I use from mid-May to late September because I live in Oklahoma and outside temps can easily go over 100 degrees for weeks at a time but the solarium stays no more than 85 degrees. I'm guessing I get 50% - 60% light in the low winter sun coming thru the plastic which I have to put up again in mid-Sept. or they would definitely burn. One layer of shade cloth would also give me the same amt of light but I need to make dead spaces to keep my heating bill as low as possible. I used shade cloth and 1 layer of heavy translucent 2 years ago but it was not enough light.

This is one of my favorite catts. I love this color on any orchids and the shape on this particular clone is very nice for my personal preference.

I got mine in buds (two) with the description of dark lavendar. When the flowers opened last September, I was SOOOO happy! great fragrance too.

I'm sharing some of my photos. all in the wrong light exposure, so I'm posting a bunch.

I think mine stayed in bloom for about one month.
It started growing new roots right after the blooms faded and now a new lead is starting off nicely.

By the way, I wish I had a solarium to grow some serious collection of cattleyas and other stuff. oh, well...

Thank you for your pics of this clone also. I am so glad to hear that the flowers last so long!

My pleasure!

One month is not so long! well, some catts last less than one month, so not bad I guess.
