What a disaster! The first two spikes had three buds each and they were so heavy that they drooped straight down after they came out of the sheath. I tried to straighten them so the flowers would present properly and broke both spikes off. That was 6 large buds that I lost. Oh well, what can you do.

Beautiful specimen! So sorry about your mishap! We've all experienced snapping flower stems when trying to stake them. It's a heart sinking feeling. I have my own little trick you might try. After the buds are out of their sheath and before they have a chance to droop due to weight, I use scotch tape to lasso the stem as carefully as possible to the leaf from where it grew. Both ends of the tape are secured at the back of the leaf. This would be frowned upon if showing in a show, but for my own enjoyment, it works great! Just be sure to do this before they start to droop.

That's Eplc. Volcano Trick 'Fireball'. I didn't post a picture this year because it seems like almost everybody has one. It always puts on a nice show.

Your plants always look so healthy and beautifully grown, Tucker. It's a crying shame about your lost buds. I know the feeling only too well! I like KWarren's suggestion about tape. I often very carefully clip a bamboo skewer to a stem to support it when the buds are heavy and then try to stake the leaf. I'm going to try lassoing the supported stem behind the leaf with tape. Thanks for the tip, KWarren.

Thanks Jeff. A nice show in indeed. How often does it bloom for you?
