Default C. violacea var. semi-alba 'Icabaru'

This plant is blooming with five flowers on one in inflorescence. The color of the flowers are very striking. The natural spread of the flowers is 4-1/2 inches horizontally. The plant was given to me from a friend in Japan a couple of years ago. The plant is growing in a 5-inch clay pot with New Zealand Sphagnum moss as the media.

That is absolutely stunning Mel!!

Is this the same plant that you posted in 2009 being grown at the Orchid Center in Waianae? I know they are both labeled as 'Icabaru' but I wasn't sure if you got a piece of the plant being grown on the west side or if they are from the same original source in Japan.

Hi Steve. You have a good memory. The plant that I photographed in 2009 unfortunately did not survive. Richard Takafuji gave it to me in very poor condition. I bloomed it once than it went downhill thereafter. The plant that I have now is another cutting or a clone that came from Japan. The plant is not very robust. I need to keep an eye on it.
