Default Slc. Mango Spice #2

My second seedling of Slc. Mango Spice (Slc. California Apricot 'Orange Circle' HCC/AOS x Sc. Beaufort 'Luna Rousse') has bloomed. It has more flaring and more of a star shaped flower than the first seedling. I like both of them.

I have two seedlings of the reciprocal cross that have not bloomed yet. It seems to me that the reciprocal cross seedlings are not as vigorous as the two that have bloomed. I will post pics of those when they bloom. Thanks for looking!

Here is the link to the first seedling that bloomed. Slc. Mango Spice #1

Very nice. Not as full as the first yet still beautiful. How do you get enough light in the winter for them? I have traveled alot in Wash and except for east of the mountains, the light level is quite low. Of course I never measured it so I may have been fooled. I love to view from your balcony. I'm guessing that is where this pic was taken. All I have here is an orange tree with fruit to look at. Oh well.

Thanks guys!

James- You are right about the light levels. I grow under lights during most of the year in my spare bedroom. I put most of my orchids outside on my deck when it is warm enough. I can't wait to get them outside but it is still in the 40s at night so I will have to wait a little while longer. I do have a lot of pine trees to look at but I wouldn't mind some fruit trees mixed in with some palm trees too!

The reason I asked is that I have traveled a lot in the NW and even been to Whidby to fish. But never made it to Camano. I've seldom seen the sun anywhere around there except for Squim area. I always wondered if there was enough light for orchids. I know some bonsai don't do well because there isn't enough light. But maples and flowering fruits do very well. Is it very windy during the winter? I always wanted to go up to third beach during a major storm and shoot pictures of the water. Anyway, very nice orchids. Let me know when you come down. I'll get some addys and directions for you.

Hey, these look familiar!!! Very nice!

Your Slc Mango Spice flowers look bigger than mine. What is the natural spread of the flower?
