Thanks Nat, by the looks of things I don't think the flower is going to last very long. Not sure if that is a characteristic of this species?

Hmmm not sure re: flower life, Brenda. Most of the Catts and related genera I've bloomed last about 2-4 weeks, but I don't grow this one. Opening this morning and already fading sounds pretty short-lived, though, maybe someone else experienced with this species will chime in...

Really pretty bloom, Brenda. The flowers will last longer if you can manage to keep the plant a bit cooler and out of direct sunshine (although the fragrance will be stronger when the blooms have been warmed up by the sun). The flowers on my gaskelliana usually last a few weeks on the plant; although they appear delicate and the texture isn't heavy, they're surprisingly resilient. How do you like the scent? Good, yes? Congratulations on the flower. It's beautiful.

Thanks Steve and all. Didn't detect a smell Steve until you suggested it. I now do smell something quite sweet, but it is faint as the plant has not been in the sunshine since the bud opened.

I think maybe I'm just used to thicker petaled flowers, not this dainty, thats why I'm thinking it wont last long..we'll see. The alba is in sheath so looking forward to that one. How come once the shows are over my things decide to bloom...or is it just me?
