I would like to get a Brassavola cucullata but due to there droopy growth habit, it is said they are best grown on a mount. I grow under T5 lights and the humidity is around 40% in winter and 55% or higher in summer. Would it be ok to mount this orchid even with my conditions? On the AOS website it said that if you pot Brassavola cucullata, use a ring stake. I would really like it mounted though. How often would it need watered if I did mount it? And what would I do with it if I went away for a week? I also like Brassavola David Sander. Would this orchid be more suitable for a pot? Thanks for any advice.
my david sander is potted and doing well....and so are my digbyanas...i would stick ot pot culture in your conditions, the mounts woudl dry out too quickly i think...gl
I water my cucullata every day... its mounted on a piece of wood with osmunda and moss. The longest it has gone without watering is 2 days. It is also about to bloom for the first time! REALLY cool plant!
Yes, this is very cool species! I used to water my mounted one every day. Most Brassavolas do pretty well with 'drier' conditions, just be sure to water it every day.
