Maria's first Laelia anceps of 2011 Female
Talking Maria's first Laelia anceps of 2011

This orchid has a funny story. I had ostensibly purchased a Laelia anceps var. alba 'San Bar Oaxaquena' back in 2010. When that one bloomed, I realized it was not an alba, and I sent a picture to Santa Barbara Orchid Estate. They sent me a replacement division this year. THIS is the replacement. It's supposed to be a Laelia anceps var. alba 'SanBar Oaxaquena' but it's clearly not an alba.

I'm simply calling it a Laelia anceps var. sanderiana at this point. Whatever it's called, its beautiful, don't you agree? This photo was taken today.

I have other Laelias waiting in the wings, either in spike, or in bud, and they are eager to show themselves off.

Maria

That's beautiful Maria. I love Laelia anceps but for some reason I haven't had much luck with them. I'm still trying though. Yours is lovely and I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the others you have.

Just gorgeous!

However, it is a bit concerning that SBOE missed the mark TWICE

Very nice!
L. anceps is one of my favorite lealia species but i do not grow them well. It seems that they do not like our humid summer. Several of my plants got black rot this summer, which really discouraged me.

Maria,

I was looking up L. anceps types and this one looks like it is ssp. dawsonii.

Thank you all for the comments. I contacted SBOE and sent them a picture. The bloom looks like the first replacement, and they told me that one was a sanderiana type. So, we shall see what they say this time.

I"ve no idea at this point though.

I think it looks great and would probably keep it! Are you growing this the traditional s/h method (ie. permanent water well at the bottom of the pot) or are growing this plant in the pellets as media and water from above as needed?
